Concerned About VOCs?
VOCs are Volatile Organic Compounds. When you think about the smell of fresh paint, the ubiquitous “new car smell”, and the scent of wall-to-wall carpet that has just been laid down, you are actually recalling the smell of VOCs. Most products that are laid down wet and then allowed to dry, that are glued down, or that are made with synthetic products, give off gasses in the initial stages after installation. For some people, the result of excessive VOCs in the air can be similar to an allergic reaction. Therefore, California Custom Coatings offers epoxy coatings that are specifically designed to emit a low amount of VOCs.
VOC Reduction
Reductions in VOCs released into your home or work environment can be accomplished in a variety of ways. One very important key is ventilating the room where the installation takes place. Secondly, a faster drying epoxy coating spends less time emitting organic compounds, thus allowing the air to clear more quickly. Third, we can also use products specifically designed for low VOC emissions that use low or no chemical solvents.
Expert Application Required
When no chemical solvents are used in the epoxy mix, the time available for the installer to work with the material is very short — in the range of only 30 minutes! Clearly, unless the installer is experienced, it is very difficult to neatly and efficiently apply the epoxy coating. Fortunately, California Custom Coatings is staffed by capable epoxy installers who can work with low solvent or no solvent coatings. The result is the same shiny, smooth finish, but without the VOCs that many people want to avoid.
